A Brief Memoir of sorts
Page 3
We started playing shows at various Winnipeg venues like The Zoo, Ozzies, The pyramid and the Blue Note Cafe. We had developed a big sound, that was bigger than my songwriting but lent itself to the sound of the emerging Winnipeg Music scene. One of our shows at The Zoo, there was this kid in the crowd watching and really digging what were doing. He came up to me at the end of the show and said "I have to play with you guys", so I said "sure, were jamming this Thursday". That kid was Remy Shand. Remy was as close to a musical prodigy that I've ever encountered. Not only was he a complete monster on the keyboards, he was also probably twice as good as any of us on our given instruments. What I noticed right away was that he just "got it", there was no explaining to him why this chord changed or what it changed to, he spoke the telepathic musical language of "feel". We changed our name from leaderhouse, to The Leaderhouse 5.
